 The boring details...

My Norton AntiVirus software quit updating new virus definitions about 2 months after I purchased it. It's supposed to be good for a year.

I emailed Norton - Symantec.  I called Norton - Symantec.  It took 20 - 30 minutes for them to answer the phone, after getting  thru all the telephone menu options.

"DO NOT BUY NORTON'S SYMANTEC
ANTI VIRUS!!!

I TOO HAVE BEEN SCREWED."

Norton sent me a 5 page list of instructions about manually uninstalling software.   It took 1.5 hrs to do that.  Afterwards, I had exactly the same problem!

Again,  I called Norton's "Priority 800 Support -- 800/927-3991."  Try calling it your self and see! :).

Norton emailed me some software.  That software seemed to nothing, but I was asked to give my credit card number by the web page which this software linked me to.

I'm very angry.

After another 45-minute call to Norton, three weeks later, this problem was finally fixed.    My contract  with Norton was that I purchased virus definition updates for one year, but I got only a couple of months.  Calling the company is very time consuming, and Norton does not seem to care.  It feels as if the main priority of the service personnel is to get the customer off the telephone as soon as possible.

Is a better deal available on the 'Net?    Yes:   Avira - Anti-Virus

Subject: I switched

I switched from Norton AntiVirus to McAfee Virus scan.  After installation
McAfee found 3 worms that had been on my computer. IT also found 3 other dialer / garbage
programs -- not viruses, but possibly malicious anyway.

I have Norton on my new one, It came pre-installed, just expired.
I want to go back to McAfee but on the new computer.
How do I upgrade?  I won't jump thru a bunch of hoop to do this, just tell me how or send the URL, or software.

The reason I won't use Norton again is here:

Please reply ASAP, I'm timing you; thank you kindly in advance.

Right on bro!

I purchased a copy of Norton Professional AV 2004 for my 3 month old Dell Laptop running XP. After 7 hours of fruitlessly installing, uninstalling, reinstalling and loading reconfiguring Windows XP patches MY AV software still does not work - Norton's suggestion call dell and have them walk me through reformatting my hard drive!

Norton is getting their disk back in the mail.. I'm getting a refund.

Norton Sucks!!!

Norton is one of the worst software programs in history.
Try Grisoft’s AVG. It is much better.

Subject: Norton Really Does Suck

Norton really does suck. I am utterly astonished at how bad this software is. I have had problems with every aspect of its installation and use, on three different computers (I had purchased a three-license Home Protection Pack). The only thing that is worse than Norton Antivirus is Symantec customer support. It does not matter what the issue is, they always say the same thing –- some files must have gotten corrupted and you need to reinstall. Anyone who is thinking about buying a Symantec product should take a look at the Norton Antivirus 2005 customer reviews on Amazon. There are some positive reviews, generally the one or two line blurbs that always make me think that they were probably posted by company shills. There is also a mountain of detailed, negative comments from obviously unhappy victims of Norton. Wish that I had done my homework before I paid for this piece of crap.

Problem is that I've experienced the same problems with Mcafee--the subscription expired a month before it should have.

I agree wholeheartedly. I used to use a different virus software but, unfortunately switched to Norton a couple of years ago.

Yesterday, My green checkmark turned red & my real time protection was disabled. The next thing I knew, I had two viruses- Trojan.vundo & Trojan.nebular. Norton resolved the nebular but only "partially" resolved the vundo. I called customer support. I told them that if my real time protection hadn’t failed, I wouldn’t have gotten the viruses. They told me that for $99 their tech support could fix it. I told them that this occurrence was not my fault & that they should stand behind their product, which failed.

Needless to say, I refused to pay $99, which seemed like ransom to me. I went online to symantec’s website. There was a removal tool. I attempted it & thought it worked. After running it a 2nd time, a box popped up & said it was gone. It wasn’t. I then printed out instructions for manual removal from Symantec. The files in my registry it told me to delete did not exist yet my computer was still infected. I then went to the Norton forum & found a post that almost exactly recounted what my problem was- same virus & everything. A person told them to download a software program, Antimalware, and that should take care of it. The download was on cjnet.com. The person did that & reposted that the solution had worked. THIS WAS ALL FREE! So, I took my chances b/c I trust CJnet & downloaded the same program. I had 44 infections & it removed every single one. I’m no longer getting DLL errors, my Norton checkmark is green, etc.

Yes, Norton sucks. They wanted $99 to fix a problem caused by their software. They wanted $99 to fix something that I found a free fix for. Why in the world could the software only "partially" resolve the virus?

URGH!!!!! I HATE NORTON!

You can’t understand their tech support either, they are all Indian with really strong accents & fake concern.

Unsatisfied Norton customer!

Peter Norton ! you and your little Asian Indian helpers should be ashamed of yourself. Your products have really suffered in quality. And your business ethics suck !

You company sends me an un-wanted Pop-up telling me I qualify for N360 Version 3. Then after a very unstable install you tell me my subscription has expired, when I know I have at least 180 days left.

If business is that bad where you must resort to stealing , maybe you need some bail-out money.

Bottom line ; I will never use any of your products again. I am removing them from every PC in my home and making recommendations to all my customers.

I have had Norton Anti Virus for at least 5 years now.
I had so many problem renewing my protection this year that they told me I would get a year free. Well that was just wonderful and great till I saw they charged me on my bank statement. So once again I spend hours on the phone with them trying to take care of it and they said they could do nothing about it.
So I let them know I won't be renewing next year. I filled out the survey and let them know that if I was mistaken it was because I could not understand ANY of the customer service people. They all had very strong accents that I could not understand nor do I understand why they trying to help customers when you can understand what they are saying.
Done with Norton.
