Report of Theft to Salt Lake City police

  A car was broken into and some things were stolen, including a cell phone. 
Here is the thief's  phone log...  "I can't make it any more plainly than that..."
And the detectives were "unable" to track the thief down.

SLC police acts as if it is interested in solving this crime, but it does little to try to solve it.
It's just too DIFFICULT / not worthwhile.

In the end... No solution obtained.

 The Report 

When I reported this crime, the policeman who took my call wanted to know if the theft was valued less than $1,000 dollars.  -- it seemed (I'm not sure) -- from the conversation, that if the loss is less than this amount, that the theft is not very import.  Check back; result will be posted here....

On Apr 29 2007 I called the police and re-reported this crime (Case no. 07-74839), I gave them this web page  and asked to be informed as to what was found out.

I've called the police several times to see if they had done anything (799-3000).  Some days ago, I was told a detective would call me the next day -- noting. Two days later I called back.  At first the woman who answers seemed evasive, but later she told me that Detective Bridge is working the case and I should call him on the next morning.

May 7 2007:  Mike Brown, Chief Executive Officer of Police Chief Burbank called.  My letter to the Mayor had taken effect.  He and Lt. Smith were charged with following thru on this.  Twenty minutes later Detective Jenson called and wanted to know some more information about the case.  So, now I'm happy; well placated at the least -- it feels like the police are doing something.  From what I gather, one of the leads the police has is the name of a female who called my stolen telephone's  phone number.

 Detective Bridge, who had been working on this case had to go in for back surgery; that could explain the delay.

Ps: If you try an Internet reverse phone service to find who these people are, you are wasting A LOT of your  time and money! I used http://www.reversephonedetective.com and it told me absolutely NOTHING of value about any of these phone numbers' owners. It's ENDLESS screens, sales pitches and links to similar "services" where one has to re-type the same information onto those forms, and pay for additional memberships. Beware!  I sent an email to these Reverse phone detective people asking for a refund. I will post speed of reply and courtesy / result here, stay tuned...

I had occasion to talk with police on another matter recently.  I mentioned this to one of the officers.  He told me that probably nothing will be done to investigate this crime.

Dear sir,

I reported my cell phone (and other valuables) as having been stolen from my car in my garage at my home on or about MAR 28. Since then, my wife examined the phone logs provided by the cell phone company ( T-Mobile ) and discovered the below telephone calls made immediately after the theft had occurred.  Please examine the data provided here and reply telling me what progress, if any you have made.

Please provide me with a copy of my initial police report and mail it to my address which I gave at the time the report of the theft; I want to post in on the 'Net along with this information.

 Thank you kindly in advance for your reply.

5-14-2007: Detective Jenson called me this morning.  I had written him a l letter, having had no luck in contacting him by phone.  He gave me an update on the case, but I learned noting new.

5-16-2007: Detective Jenson called again this morning.  He told me, basically, that he is busy with more important cases, but he is working on this one, too.  But not to expect too much.  If he can contact the people on the telephone list and if they say they know nothing, then that will be the end of that.  I suppose plan B would need to be activated next.  (email)  I want to neuter this thief in our neighborhood.
